Botulinum toxin and facial fillers are two different cosmetic treatments that can reduce wrinkles and lines. Although both can be used for facial rejuvenation, they are very different from one another.
The main difference between Botox and Fillers is that Botox is a neurotoxin that decreases the activity of the muscles that cause wrinkles; while fillers add volume to soft tissues.
Botulinum Toxin is a purified protein that blocks signals from the brain going to the nerve endings. It is injected to the muscles which cause muscle hibernation and therefore decreases the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
The effect of botox can be seen after a week and can last for three to four months. For some patients, especially those who have had continuous treatment with botox, they may only need a couple of injections every year. In general, treatment frequency varies between patients to patients.
On the other hand, facial fillers are used for soft tissue augmentation.
There are different types of facial fillers: dissolvable and non-dissolvable. In our Dubai Healthcare City, we only use dissolvable facial fillers because of its safety and proven results.
Facial fillers are made up of different components but the most popular is the one composed of Hyaluronic Acid (HA). Hyaluronic acid is a natural-occurring substance that makes up the body. It is commonly found in the skin, connective tissues and eyes.
The filler is injected beneath the skin to plump the skin, decrease the appearance of lines, and add volume to the area. HA attracts water to the injected part which may cause temporary swelling.
Both Botulinum Toxin and Facial Fillers are great treatments to improve facial rejuvenation.
