Botox, as we popularly know Botulinum Toxin, is a wrinkle-eraser, and line-smoother injection treatment. A controlled amount of botox is injected to muscles of the proposed areas.
1. Botox is just for wrinkles
Botox was first used as a therapeutic treatment for strabismus (cross eyes) and blepharospasm (uncontrollable blinking) in the 1980s and up to now. Also, Botox has been approved by the FDA for prophylactic treatment in chronic migraine headache. Finally, it is used for excessive armpit sweating or axillary hyperhidrosis.
2. Botox can cause toxicity and give botulism
Botox is from a protein produced by the bacteria, Clostridium botulinum, that is responsible for a particular type of food poisoning. The amount used in botox has been tested and substantially decreased so that it cannot pass through the bloodstream or cause an infection. Furthermore, the minute dose is only able to spread on the injected area and nowhere else.
3. Botox is used when you have wrinkles already
Botox can be used as a preventive treatment for dynamic lines to become static wrinkles. Having regular treatments of Botox can weaken the targeted facial muscles that cause wrinkles.
4. Anyone can have botox
Botox is not recommended for underage patients and those with active infections to the targeted area. It is also not used for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
5. Botox is mainly for women
There is a splurge of men who are looking to rejuvenate their facial appearance with botox injections, fillers and laser resurfacing.
