DERMAL FILLERS DUBAI

There are a number of dermal fillers available in the market and choosing the right filler will depend on an individual’s preference. Fillers can be classified as biodegradable and non-biodegradable (permanent) fillers.

BIODEGRADABLE (Absorbable) FILLERS

Basically, biodegradable fillers are those that are not permanent. The life span of such fillers can last from a couple to several months or even a couple of years.

These biodegradable fillers consist of purified dermal ingredients from human, animal or bacterial sources. A few examples of biodegradable fillers are collagen, hyaluronic acid, polylactic-L-acid fillers and calcium hydroxylapatite fillers. Among these fillers, the hyaluronic acid is the most widely used fillers up to now because it is less allergenic than the other absorbable fillers. Another advantage of hyaluronic acid filler is the availability of hyaluronidase which can counteract the effect of the hyaluronic acid.

In spite of these fillers to be popular, there are a few adverse reactions. Mild pain and discomfort on the injection site, bruising, and swelling can be experienced but will disappear in a few days and usually do not need any treatment. Moreover, multiple sessions are required to achieve a continuous rejuvenation effect.

Some well-known biodegradable fillers in the market include Juvederm, Radiesse, Restylane and Sculptra.

NON-BIODEGRADABLE FILLERS

Non-biodegradable fillers are permanent fillers that provide long lasting volume restoration.

The disadvantage of having permanent fillers is the possibility of reactions which may manifest as nodule formation, secondary deformity, discomfort and chronic swelling. In addition, the most common late reaction is the appearance of hard lumps (granuloma) on the injected areas. The treatment for this type of adverse reaction is more difficult than that of the temporary fillers. In some cases, surgical removal of the fillers is necessary. For abscess-like formations, a course of antibiotics is recommended.

Although dermal fillers have proven to be an effective facial rejuvenation treatment, choosing the right product and matching them to the needs of the patient are a major factors to achieve high patient’s satisfaction.
