Skin hyperpigmentation is caused by an overproduction of melanin, the substance responsible for skin colour. Various factors, such as overexposure to the sun, pregnancy, and hormonal changes, can all contribute to an increase of melanin.
Over-the-counter skin products may not be as effective as Dermamelan treatment. Dermamelan is proven to lessen the appearance of these dark spots, resulting in a flawless-like skin.
What is Dermamelan?
Dermamelan is a mask treatment that lessens and reduce skin hyperpigmentation. It is composed of two-stage: clinic-based treatment and maintenance-based.
How is the Dermamelan done?
The first stage involves a visit to the clinic. The doctor will clean the face using a degreasing solution which removes oil and other external debris on the surface of the skin. Afterwards, the depigmentation mask (dark brownish-colour) is applied and is kept on the skin for at least 8-10 hours, depending on skin colour. You don’t need to stay at the clinic for this long. The doctor will just apply the cream and let you go home, so make sure to go straight home, otherwise, you risk exposure to other environmental factors and of course, we don’t want other people staring at your face.
The second stage is the maintenance stage, a cream-based treatment done at home. Once the maximum time has been achieved, you may wash your face with water and soap. You may feel tingling on the skin even before the maximum time has passed. This is a normal occurrence as the depigmentation treatment penetrates the skin. The cream is applied twice a day until a month, depending on the doctor’s recommendation.
What can I expect?
During the application of the depigmentation mask, you may feel tingling and warm sensations on the skin. The skin may already be red and puffy on the first two days. It can be very sensitive to touch and very tight. Be sure to apply sunblock, moisturiser and the home cream.
On the third and fourth day, the peeling will start. This is when the magic really happens! The outer skin peels off ranging from bits and pieces to sheets of skin. Similarly, the skin will be itchy. Make sure not to scratch them or you risk having unwanted complications.
On the fifth and sixth day, skin shedding will have lessened and you will feel that the skin is settling down. Slight redness, itchiness and tightness can still be observed.
On the 7th day, this is when great improvement is obvious. The shedding has stopped and glowing skin appears. As the days pass, you may notice more improvement in skin texture and appearance.
