Facial rejuvenation is an art and science in improving the appearance of the face and neck to achieve a more youthful look.
For decades, the standard has been a full traditional facelift combined with other invasive procedures. However, some of these procedures have been known to carry some significant risks, complications and prolonged recovery time.
At present, surgeons and patients alike are looking for treatments that are less aggressive that can reduce the risks and complications as well as less downtime with early return to work and social activities.
The following are a list of less invasive or minimally-invasive facial rejuvenation treatment.
BOTULINUM TOXIN INJECTIONS
Botulinum toxin injections are the most popular non-invasive facial rejuvenation treatment. It effectively reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by “hibernating” the muscles. The treatment is repeated every three to four months, depending on individual need.
Threadlift facelift is a quick and simple procedure which effectively rejuvenates the skin. It uses absorbable threads to lift targeted areas resulting in a subtle but visible “lift” in the skin. Moreover, the threads stimulate collagen production to the areas which then helps in rejuvenation.
Generally, threadlift treatment is well tolerated and can be done under local anaesthesia.
“Liquid facelift” is a term used when dermal fillers are injected to targeted areas to achieve a “lifting” effect of the face.
The most common dermal fillers used nowadays are made up of hyaluronic acids, a naturally occurring component in the body and the skin and is involved in tissue repair. The procedure is done as an outpatient procedure. Patients often see immediate results.
There are two types of laser resurfacing for facial rejuvenation. Ablative and non-ablative laser treatments.
Ablative laser is for those who show signs of significant facial ageing or have deep acne scars, while non-ablative laser improves skin texture. Among the two, the ablative laser resurfacing is more invasive but produces dramatic improvement in the skin with fewer sessions.
Another difference between the two laser treatments is that ablative treatment uses the laser to fractionally deliver to the skin, creating microscopic holes, while non-ablative laser uses gentle heating on the surface beneath the skin. Days following the treatment, the skin appears tighter because of the immediate collagen shrinkage followed by long term stimulation of fibroblasts which stimulates neocollagenesis (new collagen production).
